This is partly a story about a company called Apple Computer. It’s also partly a story about a fancy new iPod that plays videos as well as music and that could dramatically change the way people entertain themselves. But it’s mostly a story about new things and where they come from, about which there are a few popular misconceptions.
How Apple does it
Personal thougths about 5G iPod
- Never imagined that Apple could push the size even further, given all the new features.
- I like the new Universal Dock with Apple’s new remote
- No FireWire connection, USB 2.0 only.
- Great battery life for both 30GB and 60GB models.
- What happened to the remote control supplied with the headphones? There’s no I/O port at the top near the headphone jack.
- How does the resolution of 320×240 pixels, supported by the iPod Video, look on TV?
- Where’s the video content on the spanish iTunes Music Store?
Stevie’s Little Wonder
How Jobs and his team of Apple innovators created this season’s must-have gadget (via Time):
It’s amazing that the Nano even made it to the stage. The story of the Nano started nine months ago, when Jobs and his team took a look at the iPod Mini and decided they could make it better. On the face of it, that wouldn’t appear to be a fantastically smart decision. The iPod Mini was and still is the best-selling MP3 player in the world, and Apple had introduced it only 11 months earlier. Jobs was proposing to fix something that decidedly was not broken.
